Banksy
British, b. 1974
Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed. Active since the 1990s, his satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique, and his works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls and bridges of cities throughout the world.
In 2010 Banksy directed the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. His 2019 artwork Love is in the Bin, created during a live auction by partially shredding his famous Girl with Balloon, sold for approximately $1.4 million and later resold for $25.4 million, exemplifying the explosive demand for his work.
