Watching & bidding
When are you live?
LIVE four nights a week, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 8 PM – 1 AM Eastern.
How do I bid?
Register for a free account, register for the sale, then bid online in the webcast or by phone at 1-866-518-5933. Login to the webcast is by your registered phone number.
Is there a reserve?
All of the Lots offered at Auction are subject to a confidential minimum price acceptable to the Seller at which the Lot will be sold (the "Reserve"), unless otherwise stated.
What are Anglo-Dutch auction terms?
For editions, additional impressions of the same work may be sold during the auction at the same reserve, or at a "buy-now" price equal to the current high bid. If an additional impression sells for less, the first winning bid is reduced to match the lower price.
Fees & payment
What is the buyer's premium?
Winning Bidders agree that in addition to the Hammer Price, each Lot will be subject to an additional charge on the Hammer Price as part of the Total Purchase Price in an amount equal to Ten Percent (10%) (the "Buyer's Premium"). Example: The Hammer Price on a Lot is $1,000. The Winning Bidder would pay a Buyer's Premium equal to $100 on such Lot.
How can I pay?
We accept the following major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. We also accept personal checks and money wires. Cashier's checks and wire transfers are welcome; payment is due at the close of the auction and a late fee of 1% per month applies from the fifth day.
Are taxes included?
No. Sales tax, shipping, in-transit insurance and any customs duties are added to the Total Purchase Price. International buyers are the importer of record.
Shipping & delivery
How is my lot shipped?
All Lots will be shipped from the United States. The Winning Bidder is responsible for all costs to ship each Lot including in-transit insurance costs. Shipping is not included in the Hammer Price of Your Lot. Please allow up to two (2) weeks for the delivery of Your Lot to You.
How long does delivery take?
Items shipped via ground will arrive within three to seven business days after the order has been processed. Two-day and next-day shipping options are available at checkout.
Do I need to sign for the delivery of my artwork?
Framed pieces require an adult signature (18+) upon delivery to ensure they arrive safely. Unframed works shipped in tubes do not require a signature.
If I purchase multiple artworks, will they arrive together?
Not always. Framed items are individually packed and shipped separately for protection. Unframed pieces are typically grouped and rolled into a single shipping tube (up to 6 pieces per tube) to speeds up delivery.
Returns & authenticity
Can I return a lot?
You may return any Lot for a refund less the Buyer's Premium and shipping and handling. Request an RMA from info@thefineartauction.com within 7 days of receipt (Mon–Fri 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM ET) and return the Lot within 7 days of the RMA, in original condition with tags and the Certificate of Authenticity. Custom work (sizing, mounting, appraisals) is final sale.
Do I receive a Certificate of Authenticity?
Each artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, shipped with the piece.
Is there an authenticity warranty?
The Fine Art Auction warrants the Authenticity of a Lot for a period of one (1) year from the date of sale and only to the original Purchaser on record at the Auction.
Framing & care
What materials are used in your framing?
We use 100% acid-free matting, backing, and insulation to preserve the integrity of your artwork. Paper-based works are also protected by shatter-resistant acrylic, which filters UV rays and prevents damage from dust and touch.
Why is acrylic used instead of anti-glare glass?
Acrylic is safer for delicate artworks, it won't shatter like glass, and it protects against UV light. Anti-glare glass can distort the image and risks tearing the art if broken.
Is hardware included with framed art?
Yes. All framed pieces arrive ready to hang with secure hardware installed. Heavier frames may use reinforced mounting hardware for added support.
Why isn't canvas artwork covered with acrylic?
Canvas needs to "breathe" as it ages. Sealing it behind acrylic could affect its longevity, so we frame canvas pieces without enclosing them.
How do I clean acrylic-covered artwork?
Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth slightly dampened with water. Avoid ammonia, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, which can scratch or cloud the acrylic.
How do I care for canvas art?
For light dusting, gently tap the surface and use a clean, soft cloth. For deep cleaning, consult a professional art conservator.
How should I clean metal artworks?
Use a clean microfiber cloth to dust. For fingerprints, gently wipe with diluted automotive cleaner. Never use polish or harsh chemicals, which could damage the surface coating.
How do I maintain bronze sculptures?
Bronze sculptures are coated with a protective wax. Clean them regularly with a mild, unscented soap and water mixture using a soft cloth. Avoid perfumed or abrasive products.
What lighting is best for displaying art?
LED lights are recommended due to low heat output and long life. Avoid placing artwork in direct sunlight or under fluorescent lights, which can cause irreversible fading or brittleness. Always position lighting at an angle to minimize heat and UV exposure. To test your lighting: place your hand between the art and the light. If you feel warmth, the light may be too strong.
