Artist
Paul Cézanne
French, 1839–1906
Paul Cézanne, born in 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, was a pioneering French Post-Impressionist painter whose work bridged Impressionism and Cubism with a focus on structure, form and color. Initially met with criticism, his distinctive style of repetitive brushstrokes and a unique approach to depth greatly influenced Picasso and Matisse.
His rare etchings, such as Guillaumin au Pendu (1873), are among the few prints he ever made.
