Pierre-Auguste Renoir
French, 1841–1919
Pierre-Auguste Renoir, born in 1841, was a pioneering French Impressionist painter renowned for vibrant depictions of Parisian life, leisure and feminine beauty. Raised in Paris, he began as a porcelain decorator before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts alongside Monet and Sisley.
Works such as Bal du moulin de la Galette and Luncheon of the Boating Party exemplify his mastery of light and color; his soft-ground etchings, signed on the plate, bring his line to collectors of works on paper.
