World-renowned Artist Simon Rohlen, aka KEF! traveled to Napa Valley this past week to meet with Vintners and Co-Founders Nat and John Komes at an event in his honor in the heart of California wine country. The day was spent hand-etching special Collection bottles, walking the astoundingly beautiful grounds of the vineyard, and of course included a spectacular five-star Tasting of the vintage.
Kef! X Jon Nathaniel Wines Napa Valley Vineyard
The marriage of Fine Art and Wine Making

2021 JON NATHANIEL CABERNET SAUVIGNON KOMES BROCKHOFF BLOCK: a groundbreaking collaboration of fine art, craftsmanship, culture, and creativity.

The label features a striking abstract composition—delicate brushstrokes evocative of KEF!’s signature style, this work of art evokes the fluidity of fine wine cascading into a glass. Subtle textures hint at vineyard landscapes, while his delicate lines capture the play of light, reminiscent of sunlit vines at dusk.

The Artists’ acclaimed works of art sit in Museums around the globe, fine art galleries, important private collections, and now… grace a bespoke bottle of Napa’s finest, blending visual elegance with viticultural mastery.

Winemaker Notes
The excellent 2021 vintage produced a dark, rich, highly concentrated wine with broad swaths of dark plum, fresh-baked berry pie and warm cassis. The abundant fruit is joined by notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and whispers of toasted coconut on a mid-palate that is plush and open-textured. A hint of earth adds complexity, and the firm yet supple tannins bring this Cabernet to a long-lasting finish.
Composition: 100% Rutherford sustainably farmed Cabernet Sauvignon
Cellaring: Drink 2024-2041
Komes Estate
This wine is sourced exclusively from the renowned Komes Brockhoff Block on our Rutherford estate, located on the western slope of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. Replanted in 2020 with a complete redesign to complement the volcanic soils and gentle slope, this is only the second bottling since the replant, and it’s the finest fruit we’ve seen. It thrives in harmony with century-old oaks and towering redwoods, nestled next to the Brockhoff Ghost Winery, which dates back to 1885 and is home to John and Carrie Komes since 1977.
Winemaking
The berries undergo an extended 3-day cold maceration to extract intense color and flavor. Fermentation occurs within small, precise thermal-controlled steel vessels. The wine was aged 18 months in a selection of French and American oak, 70% of which are new.
