The label features a striking abstract composition—delicate brushstrokes evocative of KEF!’s signature style, this work of art evokes the fluidity of fine wine cascading into a glass. Their first release of Jon Nathaniel Cabernet since 2019, John and Nat Komes have joined forces with renowned artist Simon Kef on this one-of-a-kind bottling. The abstract art captures balance and harmony, similar to the flowing subtle complexities of a beautiful wine. Working closely with KEF! on this custom art piece, Nat recognized immediately it would create a stunning etched label for the 2021 Jon Nathaniel Cabernet Sauvignon.
“I’m grateful to be part of this collaboration with Jon Nathaniel Wines. It’s exciting to see two forms of art come together—one to be seen, the other to be tasted.” -KEF!

Winemaker Notes
The excellent 2021 vintage produced a dark, rich, highly concentrated wine with broad swaths of dark plum, fresh-baked berry pie and warm cassis. The abundant fruit is joined by notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and whispers of toasted coconut on a mid-palate that is plush and open-textured. A hint of earth adds complexity, and the firm yet supple tannins bring this Cabernet to a long-lasting finish.
Composition: 100% Rutherford sustainably farmed Cabernet Sauvignon
Cellaring: Drink 2024-2041
Komes Estate
This wine is sourced exclusively from the renowned Komes Brockhoff Block on our Rutherford estate, located on the western slope of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. Replanted in 2020 with a complete redesign to complement the volcanic soils and gentle slope, this is only the second bottling since the replant, and it’s the finest fruit we’ve seen. It thrives in harmony with century-old oaks and towering redwoods, nestled next to the Brockhoff Ghost Winery, which dates back to 1885 and is home to John and Carrie Komes since 1977.
Winemaking
The berries undergo an extended 3-day cold maceration to extract intense color and flavor. Fermentation occurs within small, precise thermal-controlled steel vessels. The wine was aged 18 months in a selection of French and American oak, 70% of which are new.
